SWOT vs. STEEP Essay Example

SWOT vs. STEEP Essay Example SWOT vs. STEEP Essay SWOT vs. STEEP Essay The relative importance of decision making policy in a certain company may well predict the overall capacity of the business to perform well in the market. In line with this aspect, there are corporate philosophies that were created to help in the process of defining a better way to address the need for development and sustainability. The creation of SWOT and STEEP are just some of the basic domains in aiding the strategic planning process in a certain business. The existence of these two particular philosophies greatly influence the planning methods employed in a company. However, some companies prefer one compared to the other. This brings a notion whether the two perspectives provide the same advantages in properly addressing the needs in strategic planning. A relative comparison may be done to inhibit the appropriate impression whether SWOT is much better than STEEP or vice versa. This will at least address the considerations of businesses if they actually provide the same capacit y of benefits in policy making attributes.SWOT means (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) while STEEP is (societal, technological, ecological, political). At this very sense, the relative goal of SWOT remains in the overall internal inflictions for the company. The business can at least formulate a development strategy by identifying the relative factors included in it. The Strengths allow the industry to identify its optimistic value of operations; Weaknesses identify the common errors done in the business planning which can be avoided; Opportunities offers the process of identification of the positive acquisition of ideas in the environment while Threats give a plausible notion for external factors that may inflict harm to the business processes. As a matter of fact, the SWOT analysis gives constructive information which could help in matching and complimenting the firm’s resources and capabilities to the competitive environment in which it operates (QuickMBA, 19 99).On the other hand, STEEP rather identifies almost all the possible external sources of change in the internal business planning strategy. This includes the identification of various factors that only incorporates the influence of the outside world to the organizations processes. The company becomes a passive structure in the dynamic of marketing since it can only identify the actual relative events that currently induce the social structure. The Social and Political patterns become the predictor factor in doing marketing strategy, increasing the risk of trending the business operation to what the events demand. This could be a harmful step especially to the market segments where other preferences may be at existence. Moreover, Technological and Ecological factors erase the need for the company to explore other alternatives since these two factors can readily suffice the needs of a business but only in a short term approach. There are various ways that can be considered in creatin g the most appropriate marketing strategy. However, the organization should first identify what market segments it wishes to conduct its business operations. In any case, the SWOT remains at a more advantage state compared to STEEP because the change and operation process starts within the company itself and not external factor driven, enriching further what aspects the business is expert at.Bibliography:QuickMba (1999). Infographic Best Practices How to Make Yours More Successful

Infographic Best Practices How to Make Yours More Successful All too often, an agency or team will spend weeks coming up with a solid concept, crafting compelling copy, and drawing up stunning designs for their infographic†¦ only for it to fall flat when it’s finally ready to be shown to the world. Why? Did they misjudge their audience’s interest in the topic? Did they miss a step in the process of bringing an infographic to life? Did they bully Zuckerberg as a child, leading to Facebook’s algorithm being specifically devoted to pushing their content to the bottom? If you’ve got a story worth telling, then it’s worth being shown to the world. At Lemonly, we believe one of the best ways to tick both boxes is with a brilliant blend of copy and design that makes the abstract actionable, the boring brilliant, and the complex concise: an infographic. Your content’s performance involves a number of variables, of course, but the fact of the matter is this: a finished piece of content is only the first step in the ever-evolving process of content marketing. If nobody sees your stuff, does it really matter how insightful or aesthetically pleasing it is? And besides, everybody’s busy. Creating content that goes nowhere isn’t in the best interest of anyone’s time. Any good content marketing team should go into every project with a plan for posting and promoting their pieces online - here’s our three-step suggestion. How to Make Your Infographics More Successful With the Right Best Practices by @lemonly viaBonus Checklist: How to Make Infographic in 7 Steps This post is packed with advice on creating infographics the right way. But, how do you actually follow a process to create a single infographic? Follow this guide created by s own design extraordinaire, Ashton Hauff.Follow this infographic design checklist to make sure every one you create gets done right.Step 1: Nail Your Infographic Copy + Design The first step might seem a little obvious, but it’s an important one across the content board. If you’re going to get in the game, jump in head-first. With as many channels as are competing for consumers’ attention, the highest quality work will always rise to the top. Putting out consistent, quality content establishes a good reputation that will keep people coming back for more. Call us biased, but we’ve found infographics to be hugely successful when it comes to explaining a process, spreading the word about a new discovery, suggesting a solution, or simply telling a story. Infographics combine data visualization with attractive illustrations to form a quick, easy-to-read piece of content that can do some serious heavy lifting. Though they can be animated, static, or interactive, and can fit into nearly any form factor, the best infographics cover the same key bases. Even if you’re not an Adobe master, keeping these in mind will lead to a strong infographic that’s well on its way to garnering big engagement for your brand. Recommended Reading: How to Make an Infographic in 7 Easy Steps Start With a Thesis Great infographics immediately answer â€Å"What’s the point?† After all, you’re not just expressing your artistic side. Decide what you want your audience to take away once they close your window, and stick to it. Trying to do too much can water down your main point. Add Clear, Concise Copy Much like the piece as a whole, having a plan makes writing compelling copy much more simple. Start with an outline that lays out your thesis and supports it with a few key points, then research your topic and add statistics to and other evidence that backs up your claims. Outlines help you keep your information structured and cut down on that intimidating feeling of staring down a blank Word document. It’s a good idea to stick to the â€Å"need-to-knows† - too much fluff and you’ll lose your audience.

Russian literature - Research Paper Example The history of Russian literature is quite old and the ‘Old Russian Literature’ includes masterpieces produced in old Russian languages. Many anonymous works illuminate the history of the Russian literature during this era and the works like ‘The Tale of Igor’s Campaign’ and ‘Playing of Daniel the Immured’. The popular entity by the name of â€Å"Lives of Saints† evolved as a distinct genre of literature in Russian language during this period. ‘Life of Alexander Nevsky’ stands as an exemplary creation of this era. Old epics blended with the literary elements and traditions of Christian and Pagan elements illuminate the literary pieces of this period. Medieval Russian literature bears religious overtones in excess and the adaptations from Church Slavonic languages with major influences from many South Slavic elements have been widely incorporated in the literature during this period. ... Thesis Statement The essay intends to explore and discuss the major theme of suicide is pertinent in almost all the works of the â€Å"Golden Age† of the Russian literature of the nineteenth century evolving as a distinct cultural dimension dissipating men and women in the society. Golden Age of Russian Literature and the Theme of Suicide Nineteenth century literature in Russia is also known by the name of â€Å"Golden Era† of literature in Russian language. Romanticism inspired poetry and the names of the luminaries like Vasily Zhukovsky and afterwards his protege Alexander Pushkin came into prominence. Pushkin instrumented both crystallization and manifestation of innovative parameters of artistic excellence and artistry in Russian literature. His most popular novel written in verse form is â€Å"Eugene Onegin†. This precise period in Russ ian literature witnessed the evolution of a fresh new set of poetic talents in the works of Mikhail Lermontov,  Yevgeny Baratynsky,  Konstantin Batyushkov,  Nikolay Nekrasov,  Aleksey Konstantinovich Tolstoy,  Fyodor Tyutchev and  Afanasy Fet. All these poets followed the creative style of Pushkin and are known in the history of Russian literature as his ardent followers. In the domain of prose, considerable contribution was notified during this period and keeping parity with the development of poetry, prose was also flourishing its canon well. The great Russian novelist of this period was Nikolai Gogol and following him were the names of the luminaries like Nikolai Leskov, Ivan Turgenev, Mikhail Saltykov-Shchedrin, who appeared in the monumental history of Russian literature during this era. Trending curation - Essay Example Just like in tweeter, where we have tweets as message sent by people, pins in pinterest are shared images that people can pin on customized boards. Users have freedom to customize their own boards with their preferred categories such as car models, funny photos, or amazing architects just to name a few. The article titled, a guide to the new and fun social media for the starters http://mashable.com/2011/12/26/pinterest-beginners-guide/ explain how Pinterest works. Snapchat despite of being around for a year has gained much popularity among the young people where they talk of snapchatting each other. By the end of last year, Snapchat was rated number three among the most popular sites in Itunes free app. Snapchat offers an exciting and interesting way to share images with relatives and friends. The unique feature in snapchat is that the user has the control the amount of time the image can be viewed before it is removed automatically. The article on this link http://infospace.ischool. syr.edu/2012/11/29/what-is-snapchat/ best explains how snapchat operates. Do you think photo communication or social wordless have changed the way we communicate and how? Taking and sharing photos have greatly changed how we used to communicate, for instance, if a person text you wanting to know where you are, one can take a snapchat and share with the person, the photo will explain in precise where you are without additional details. In addition, some people have are shy to talk to people face to face , but social media allows these person to share their moments or thoughts through a simple photo. For instance, one can share a moment of his first-born child across the whole world, where people will congratulation and like the photos of the child electronically (Petrescu 1). How do these social networks ensure that the privacy of individuals is safeguarded? A person can only view your pinterest if invited which is very similar to following in twitter. One is required to register to receive invites or invite the person you know to see your pins. Pinning is a simple process that involves using a pin it button, easily drag and place the pin on the browser extension, click to the photo or image you find exciting and select it, then finally place the pin to the appropriate board with a descriptive text, and the pin is shared. Pins can also be shared via other sites such as Facebook and twitter in order to gain more audience across all networks. In snapchat, the image or photo shared can only be available to a friend for a time ranging from one to ten seconds. Photo captions using snapchat is very easy since it requires the user to tap on the screen or create a doodle. Photo created can be shared with one person or a group a group of persons. Snapchat automatically creates a best friend alternative by identifying the persons you have shared most photos (Petrescu 1). Which do you think are the most common features of photo communicating sites such as instagram and sn apchat? Sharing of photos is the main feature of wordless social, where the user can take photos within the customized app or share the already taken photos via the phone camera. All these social sites allow people to share photos to each other such as Facebook, tumbr, and twitter. Photo manipulation is a feature that allows users to modify their photos to their liking, one can add names and funny texts on the photo to make it exciting. Instagram, snapchat, and

Factors affecting the resistance of a wire Essay Example for Free

Factors affecting the resistance of a wire Essay The graph is directly proportional (perfectly straight, through 0,0. ) There is definitely some relationship between length and resistance and there is very little chance that the points should be interpreted as a curve. I think that I can strongly conclude that increase in resistance is proportional to increase in length of wire. I would say that my graph supports this. I could use my results to conclude that the relationship is directly proportional. My conclusion can be backed up with scientific knowledge. Current is a free moving flow of electrons. Resistance reduces the flow of electrons. This resistance occurs when the electrons, that are attracted to the positive side of the cell, bump into the fixed lattice nuclei of the material that they are flowing through. This means the path of the electrons is erratic as they are changing direction. The more material there is for the electrons to flow through the more fixed lattice nuclei there are. More nuclei mean more bumping and therefore higher resistance. Increasing the length of a wire will increase the number of lattices. A larger number of lattices mean more for electrons to bump into and therefore more resistance. I could also conclude, though not as strongly, that when cross sectional area is increased resistance decreases. This means that thicker wire has less resistance than the thinner wire (Nichrome 28 the preliminary results, compared to Constantan 28) even when they were the same lengths. This would be because there is more space for the same amount of electrons to move in, so making the path of each electron less erratic. The less erratic the path the less resistance. The reason I cannot strongly conclude is that I only tried two different wire diameters. My results do not correspond exactly with my predictions, but they do match reasonably well. I predicted that the length would be directly proportional to the resistance, and I have found that this is so. Not all of my points were reasonably close to the best-fit line and I found that I had some anomalous results, e. g. at 40cm and 50cm, the points are quite far away from the points. This could be due to inaccuracy, or overheating of the wire. Then, at 60cm, the resistance increases dramatically and continues to rise quite steeply. From 60cm, I think I am able to say then only 90cm is an anomalous result. Evaluation I think that the experiment did not work very well. I say this because my graphs had some anomalous results and that my results did not support my predictions very well. I also think that my results were not reliable. My preliminary results did not give a graph of the same pattern as my proper results. I therefore would say that my results are not reproducible. If I were to do the experiment again I would just expand on what was already done. I would increase the range; the length of the wire, to say 2 meters or as high as was possible for the laboratory. I would also change the number of results for instance measuring voltage and current every 5-cm rather than every 10 cm. I would repeat results as much as possible, for instance 5 times rather than 3. I think that to say that my results are very anomalous would be untrue. Although none of the results are actually on the best-fit line, none are too far off, except for 40cm 50cm and 90cm. With all this taken into account, I would say that my results strongly support a firm conclusion. The reasons for this are that there are a reasonable amount of results taken over a suitable range and that the results have been repeated. The equipment that I used seemed suitable. The wire quite straight though not as straight as it could have been. The ammeters and voltmeters I used worked well and had good scales with easy to read markings. I would say that they gave accurate results. Also, I did not notice too much zero error on the meters (when the pointer did not go back to zero). There would be two pieces of alternative equipment that could be used. Firstly, the wire could be replaced with something thicker that would not bend as much and so would make for more reliable length measurements. Secondly, the ammeter and voltmeter could be replaced by digital versions. This would eliminate some human error as the mechanical ones that I used could be misread if looked at from an angle. Problems I had in procedure were the wire not being straight and temperature of the wire increasing. This meant the experiment was a fair test only to a certain extent. To change the non-straight wire problem I would rub it with a flat-sided object, such as a hard piece of wood. This would straighten out some of the bends. To stop temperature effecting earlier results so drastically I would take reading as quickly as possible. This would give the wire less chance to heat up. Further experiments that would extend this work could include varying cross-sectional surface area further (rather than only trying two) and seeing how different materials effect resistance. Voltage applied and insulating the wire could also be tried. The Legend of La Llorona Essay -- Urban Legends

A Guatemalan native, a male graduate student that I work with in my research group at the University told this story. He came from the countryside, living in a small village back home. According to him, the story of La Llorona, involving a weeping woman, arose sometime in the 1700s and became well known both at school and home. Some claimed to have actually seen the weeping woman. Some disregard it as unscientific and implausible. No one is sure of the exact origin of this urban legend. This story was told to me and another graduate student in our research group while sitting in lab waiting for the experiment results. The story began as we started sharing our own background and the culture of our own countries when the storyteller decided to make a little shift and started to tell a story told to him by his older cousin--the story of La Llorona: It all began with a young hidalgo (a member of the minor nobility in Spain) falling in love with a beautiful but lowly girl, Marà a. Some years ago, the young hidalgo fell in love with Marà a. Marà a had a casita--a little house--where the young hidalgo would visit and bring his friends. In almost every way, they shared a happy life together. Eventually, Marà a bore him two or three children. Everything was well except that their marriage was not blessed by the church, as his parents knew nothing about the arrangement. When his parents found out about Marà a, they would not allow him to marry her and would not accept her as his wife nor her children as their grandchildren. They went on and urged him to marry a more suitable lady to give them grandchildren; this "suitable lady" was also a member of the minor nobility in Spain, also very beautiful. At some point in time, he ga... ... walk outside late at night, you might just hear her crying! Works Cited Figueredo, Maria L. Prejudice in “Of Mice and Men” Essay

â€Å"Prejudices are the chains forged by ignorance to keep men apart. † – Marguerite Gardiner. In society, both modern and in the past, prejudice has been a tool of thinking and labeling a group of race, people, class and culture in order to distinguish ones superiority and dominance from one another, but is simply a way to judge without gathering valid facts. In Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, we see that prejudice was just as rampant in the 1930’s. In the novel, prejudice is demonstrated on 3 different levels: racial, sexual and social. It is shown how these prejudices generate false perceptions that although meant to aid, do no such good as their end result is clouding the truth. Racial prejudice is most significant when describing Crooks, who happens to be the stable buck for the farm. Crooks is also a Black man with a back disability, hence the reason he is called â€Å"Crooks†. While most of the other workers live in the same area and attend to jobs that are quite similar, Crooks is forced to live by himself, work alone in the stables and is almost never in contact with any of the other characters. People such as Curly’s Wife go as far as to ridicule Crooks and even look down at him simply for the fact that he is a Black man with a disability who is a laborer. In one instance, Curly’s Wife threatens Crooks by telling him â€Å"Listen, Nigger, you know what I can do if you open your trap, I could get you strung up on a tree so easy it ain’t funny† (Steinbeck, 98). The open brutality of this comment shows that even a woman, who would normally not have much or any say during this time in the 1930’s, is still considered higher in social class than an African-American man. Nothing is known about him as a person by any of the other farm attendants, but the prejudices that in this case are completely false help propel a gap between them, when one does not need to be. Although he may be physically handicap, he is just as capable as any of the others. As a result of being an outcast at the farm, Crooks has become very isolated and disengaged with the other members. When Lennie enters Crooks cabin in order retrieve the puppies, Crooks lashes out and tells Lennie â€Å"I ain’t wanted in the bunk room and you ain’t wanted in my room† (Steinbeck,124). This comment shows that Crooks has become bitter and alone because of the prejudice constantly being aimed at him when there is no reason for the way he is treated. He is a great overall example of racial prejudice in Of Mice and Men and society, both past and present, in which a African-American male, who is as capable as any man of another color is denied the same opportunities because of stereotypes and perceptions which can only be supported with biased false facts. Sexual prejudice is strong when Curly’s Wife is a part of a scene. Curly’s Wife also happens to be the only female that is currently occupying the place of work that the novel is set in. Curly’s Wife is presented as a character who tends to be very friendly with all the men on the farm and enjoys the attention she gets because her husband, Curly does not give her the amount of attention that she wants, so she finds it with others. Curly’s Wife is often avoided by all other who work at the farm because she is a woman who could get them in a lot of trouble. Curly is the boss’ son and Curly’s Wife being the daughter-in-law always gets her way and can have any man in the farm fired without reason. â€Å"She got the eye goin’ all the time on everybody. I bet she even gives the stable buck they eye. I don’t know what the hell she wants† (Steinbeck,51). Being a woman, there is already significant amount of sexual prejudice directed to her and the fact that she is very flirtatious with the other men further strengthens their perception of her. They all try to remain as calm as possible, careful not to give her the wrong idea cause they know the trouble that she could get them in. In actuality it appears that Curly’s Wife only craves attention from the other men and nothing sexual because of the lack of her husband to give her the attention that she wants. The idea of her wanting something only sexual and not spiritual shows the prejudice associated with gender in this novel and how its falsehood prevents a lonely woman from engaging and connecting with others on a mental level. Equally important is the Social prejudice towards characters such as Candy and Lennie in Of Mice and Men. Candy is very old and not capable of doing much around the farm but is still kept around to do the simple chores that the others are seen as more of a waste of time for others. These simple chores are envied by others and this jealousy helps create a division between Candy and the others. Candy also has a dog that in many ways is similar to him â€Å"[The] dog ain’t no good to himself. I wisht somebody’d shoot me if I got old an’ a cripple (pg. 45). † They are both described as being old, withered, confused and in many ways more of a nuisance who would do more good dead than alive. Socially being hated by the majority of the men at the ranch shows the prejudice that is directed without any reason, but simply motivated by jealousy. In the instance of Lennie, social prejudice is strongest evident in the perception others have of him because in their eyes, all they see is a big oaf incapable of accomplishing anything intelligent and only kept around for his strength. Before meeting Lennie and even engaging him in conversation, his position has already been established at the Ranch. With Curly we see that â€Å"[He’s] like a lot of little guys. He hates big guys. He’s alla time picking scraps with big guys. Kind of like he’s mad at ’em because he ain’t a big guy† (pg. 26). Regardless of his ability to be of help at the farm, Curly already establishes his position on Lennie even though he has had no significant direct contact or enough time to accurately depict Lennie as a person and not just a big man physically. Not only Curly, but other members of the farm also have decided Lennie’s place at work before fully knowing him. He is left out of card games, left back at the ranch when George and the others go out to hand more important jobs. Being considered a simple minded men with little use who spend their days playing with and day dreaming about rabbits or sweeping after others, Lennie and Candy have become outcasts in the sense that one of them is perceived to be mentally unstable and added to the fact that he is physically strong, while the other one is a nuisance who many could live without, make them both isolated and all the more reason to be avoid and singled out. â€Å"Of Mice and Men† is a brilliant novel in demonstrating that prejudice is a tool that people use to become more familiar with other individuals in order to overcome the fear of uncertainty. However, the ending result is that it puts distance between the person and the one they judge because it is not fact, but perception that is completely untrue. Prejudice is simply the reasoning of a fool to make themselves feel secure.

How and Where to Sell Your Clothes for Cash Complete Guide

How and Where to Sell Your Clothes for Cash Complete Guide SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips Are you looking for ways to make some extra money? One of your best assets for fast cash could be sitting in your closet. Rather than letting your old clothes collect dust, try selling them online or at a local secondhand store. This comprehensive guide has all of the places to sell clothes for cash online or in person. First, consider these general principles of selling your clothing and accessories secondhand. Selling Your Clothes: What You Need to Know There are two main options for selling your clothes: online or at a secondhand store. If you sell your clothes online, you can use a general e-commerce site, like eBay, or go through a clothing marketplace, like thredUP. Either way, you'll be able to reach buyers all across the globe. If you prefer to make the sale in person, then you can do so at numerous secondhand clothing stores across the country. How does pricing work when you post your used clothes for sale? When you sell online, you can often set your own price. Usually, pre-worn clothes are set somewhere between one-third and one-half of the original retail price. You probably won’t be able to sell your $300 leather jacket for its original price, but rather should aim for somewhere between $100 and $150. Most second hand stores sell your clothing for one-third of the original retail price. Then, they give you one-third of that. As you can tell, you can potentially make more cash for clothes when you sell online. However, you'll also likely be investing more of your time. You can set your own prices, but you have to input more labor. When choosing how to sell your clothes, you should think about your return on investment in terms of both profits and time. However you choose to sell your clothes, you should present them in the best light. Your clothes should be freshly laundered and wrinkle-free. Ideally, they’re stylish and in good condition. If you’re selling online, then you may be responsible for presenting your items with high-quality photographs and realistic descriptions. If you’re selling clothes to a brick-and-mortar second hand shop, then the vendor will sort through your items and decide which ones to accept. Read on for the best ways to sell your clothes online and in person, along with some tips for successfully selling your old clothes for cash. Let's take a closer look at the best places to sell your clothes for cash! Best Places to Sell Clothes Online Selling your clothes online is a great way to reach an unlimited number of buyers across many locations. Here are the top sites to sell your clothes directly to shoppers, no strings attached. eBay If you want to reach a wide audience to sell old clothes, eBay is the way to go. To become an eBay seller, you first have to set up an account. Anyone who buys from you will give feedback. As long as you accurately describe your items and ship them on time, you should get a high rating. With a high rating, shoppers will see you as a reliable seller. Once you have your account, you’ll upload images of your clothing and write descriptions. Make sure to provide accurate descriptions of each item, with the brand name, color, and size, so that it will come up in a keyword search. You can let users bid on your item or set a â€Å"Buy It Now† price. You also choose shipping options, which the buyer selects and pays for. The transactions are conducted via PayPal. Once someone buys your item, you should ship it on time to ensure a good review. Pros: Set your own price Can build up a good reputation as a seller Sell anything you want Cons: Process can be time consuming Responsible for all aspects of transaction and shipping Unclear how popular eBay is for clothes shopping If you're willing to handle the transactions yourself, then eBay is a good option for selling your clothing. VarageSale VarageSale started in 2012 and now has millions of users across the USA and globe. Like Craigslist, it connects people within a community and allows them to sell and buy any type of clothing they want. You create an account, upload photos of your items, and set a price. When you approve a buyer, then you’ll set a meeting location to exchange the item. Because you’ll sell old clothes to people in your community, you typically won’t have to ship anything. You'll meet up and get money for clothes. Pros: Safe, increasingly popular platform Free to use Unlimited listings Easy to use interface Cons: Buyers limited by location and to users of VarageSale Craigslist You can sell just about anything you want on Craigslist. Like VarageSale, your audience will mainly be limited to people in your community who can pick up the items in person. You set the price, decide how you want the buyer to contact you, and choose a meeting location. Unless you set up an alternative payment system, the buyer will likely give you cash. Pros: Easy to use Keep 100% of profits Cons: Site not specific to clothes shopping Limited by geographic location When you sell through VarageSale or Craigslist, you set a meeting spot, like your house or a public place, to finish the transaction. Fam Fam is a members-only app where you can sell your clothes via your phone or another mobile device. You’ll upload pictures and descriptions and categorize your items by brand and size. Buyers shop by community, which might be a clothing brand or size. You need a Paypal account to use Fam. When someone buys an item, you’re responsible for shipping it and sending the buyer the tracking number. Pros: App gives you constant updates about buying and selling Specific to buying and selling clothing Cons: Only on mobile device Mostly limited to high-quality, fashionable contemporary or vintage items Your Own Social Media - Facebook, Instagram, etc. Finally, you could test out your entrepreneurial skills by advertising clothing on your own social media channels. You could invite friends to your Facebook page or Instagram feed, where you post photos of clothes. It’s not technically against the rules to let people bid in the comments. Since these sites are not geared toward e-commerce, you’ll have to figure out your own payment system, whether through Paypal or something else. You’ll also have to do all of your own advertising. Pros: No fees Can establish your own online clothing store Cons: Limited audience Success depends on your own social media and marketing skills Now let’s take a look at online marketplaces that specifically buy and sell secondhand clothing. Apps like Fam allow you to sell clothes right from your phone! For Selling Through an Online Secondhand Clothing Store These online vendors look at your clothes - either photos or the clothes themselves - and decide which ones meet their standards. Then, they’ll post and advertise whatever pieces they accept. Some stores, like thredUP, pay you based on what items they accept. Others, like Tradesy, are consignment stores that pay you a percentage of the profits once an item sells. All the stores take a commission fee of anywhere from 6% to 40%. Let’s look at the top vendors for women’s clothing, designer labels, and menswear. For Women’s Clothing The following two online marketplaces will advertise your clothes and help you through the shipping process. They prefer brand name clothes from stores like Zara, American Eagle, or J. Crew, or designer labels, like Burberry and Gucci. Both Tradesy and thredUP sell women’s clothing, while thredUP also accepts children’s clothing. Tradesy Tradesy is a consignment store that pays you when an item sells. It accepts all kinds of clothing, accessories, designer goods, and even wedding and bridesmaid dresses. To sell your clothes with Tradesy, you create an account and upload high-quality images of your items. Tradesy chooses which items to accept, and then it enhances your images to make them look professional. You can set your own prices. When an item sells, Tradesy will send you a pre-paid, pre-addressed shipping kit. The company deducts a 9% commission for any sales. In the case the buyer decides to return an item, you’ll typically get to keep your earnings, unless you misrepresented the item to begin with. Pros: Easy to use Set your own price Helps with shipping Cons: 9% commission fee Items could be rejected If you're using Tradesy, you'll make money once your item sells. thredUP thredUP is a good option if you have children’s clothes to sell, as well as any women’s clothing. Unlike some other online stores, you actually ship your clothes to thredUP as a first step, rather than just uploading images. To sell with thredUP, you first order one of its signature â€Å"clean-out bags.† You fill the bag with your clothes, and then send it to thredUP. The company will then evaluate your items and decide which ones to accept. It takes about three weeks for thredUP to process a clean-out bag. You’ll get paid based on what thredUP accepts and the selling price it assigns to each of your items. Any unaccepted clothes are donated to charity, or you can pay $9.99 to have the unaccepted items returned to you. Before sending your clean-out bag, make sure to check thredUP’s list of accepted clothing brands. Pros: Get paid based on what thredUP accepts, rather than what sells Can sell women’s and children’s clothes Cons: Must pay extra if you want unaccepted items returned to you Don’t know how much you’ll make for several weeks For Designer Labels and Vintage Finds Do you have any designer items or exceptional vintage finds that you’re looking to sell? These online shops connect buyers and sellers look to exchange high-end clothing and accessories. These high-end marketplaces are looking for designer labels. Poshmark As its name implies, Poshmark is looking for high-end brands and designer labels. They accept women’s, men’s, and children’s clothing. When you sell with Poshmark, you set your prices, plus you leave wiggle room for negotiation. Poshmark suggests you discount your item by at least 30% to 40% of the original retail price. For any sale under $15, Poshmark takes a flat commission of $2.95, and you keep the rest. For pricier sales, Poshmark takes 20%, and you keep 80%. You can spend your money at Poshmark or withdraw it as cash within three days of the delivery of your item. Poshmark helps you with shipping by sending a pre-paid, pre-addressed USPS shipping label when an item sells. You’re responsible for shipping any sold clothing within two days of purchase. If the package is over five pounds, then you’ll have to pay a little more for shipping. Pros: Accepts women’s, men’s, and children’s clothing Helps you with shipping Reputable site with safe transactions Cons: Limited to high-end labels Relatively large commission of 20% Poshmark helps you send your clothes to buyers with prepaid, pre-addressed shipping labels. Snobswap Snobswap is an online marketplace that also has several boutiques in New York, LA, Miami, Washington, DC, and other cities. It sells designer goods and helps you set prices based on the item’s brand, category, and condition. You can list your items for free, but Snobswap must approve each listing, a process that takes up to 72 hours. You’re responsible for the description, pictures, pricing, and shipping, which you should do within one to three days of purchase. Snobswap will deliver your earnings into a bank account or Paypal account. The company takes a 15% commission fee. Pros: Unlimited listings You have control over description and selling price Cons: Limited to certain designer brands Not a lot of reviews currently, so perhaps not a lot of users The RealReal The RealReal is another site for pre-worn designer items, both women’s and men’s. If you have 10 items or less, then you request a pre-paid Fedex shipping label and send off your clothes. The RealReal will evaluate, photograph, and price your items over the next 10 to 15 days. Any unaccepted items are returned to you. If you have more than 10 items, then you may qualify for the company’s White Glove Service. The RealReal will send a Luxury Manager to your home to pick up the clothing free of charge. You’ll get 60% of sales under $9,999 and 70% of sales totaling $10,000 or more. Sellers get paid on the 15th of every month for items that were sold during the previous month. Pros: Can submit items for free White Glove Service for qualifying sellers Accepts both women’s and men’s clothing Cons: Limited to designer labels High commission fee of 30-40% If you're selling more than 10 designer items, then you'll qualify for The RealReal's fancy White Glove Service. For Men’s Clothing As you read above, some online used clothing stores, like VarageSale and Poshmark, accept men’s clothing. Most of the other sites, though, cater exclusively to women. This next site is one of the rare stops online for pre-worn men’s clothes. Grailed Grailed is a community marketplace for men’s clothing. You’re responsible for listing your items and providing descriptions and images. You can communicate with buyers and decide whether or not to accept their offers. To hedge your bets, you can accept several offers. Whoever pays first gets the item. Grailed has three clothing categories: Grailed, Hype, and Basics. The Grailed marketplace is, according to the site, â€Å"reserved from high quality, coveted items...typically from well-known designers and in wearable condition.† Items in the Hype section should be new releases or streetwear. The Basics section contains â€Å"well-known mass market brands† and vintage clothes. Grailed takes a relatively low commission fee of only 6%, and it discounts this fee for popular sellers. You'll make money on an item once it sells. You’ll use Paypal and be responsible for shipping and providing tracking information to buyers. Pros: One of the few sites that only sells men’s clothing Accepts a range of clothes and brands Low commission fee Cons: No help with shipping Audience limited to Grail shoppers Grailed is one of the rare online marketplaces that caters exclusively to men's pre-worn clothing. Tips for Selling Clothes Online To be successful selling clothes online, you should become close friends with your camera. Unless the site photographs your clothes for you, you’ll be responsible for uploading pictures and writing descriptions. You want to present your items in the best light, literally. You should try to take your picture in natural light from several angles - perhaps five per item. Make sure the background is simple, plain, and clean. Try to give as realistic a representation of each item as possible, in terms of both the images and descriptions, which should discuss the item’s brand, size, and condition. Besides presenting your items well, you may also have to navigate your way around a PayPal account. You’ll simply need to set up an account and link your credit card or bank account information. PayPal charges 2.9% + 30 cents for transactions made with a debit card or credit card. If you’d prefer to bring your clothes to a store in person rather than sell them online, then you’ll likely find several options in your area. If you like, 2nd Time Around will donate any unaccepted items to the Joyful Heart Association. Pros: Get higher percentage of selling price than some other stores Accessible if you live on the east coast Cons: No walk-ins Limited brands High commission fee Local Secondhand Clothing Stores Finally, you might have an independent secondhand clothing store in your area that buys used clothing. Boston, for instance, has The Garment District, and NYC has Beacon’s Closet. If you want to go local, check out the website or call to see what clothes they accept and whether they take walk-ins or require an appointment. If you decide to sell your clothes in person at a used clothing store, what steps should you take? Look locally to find even more options for secondhand clothing stores. Tips for Selling Clothes to Secondhand Clothing Stores Secondhand clothing stores tend to be selective about what they accept. To be successful, you should wash and iron all your clothes to present them in the neatest condition possible. You might also call the store beforehand to get a sense of what it’s looking for in terms of season and style. Often, the best time to sell clothes is in the few months preceding their season. For instance, stores are more likely to buy summer clothing between February and June. Much later, and they’ll be more interested in fall and winter clothing. Finally, you could ask the company about the best time to come in to avoid a long wait. If no other sellers are in front of you, then you might be able to get in and out of the store within 20 minutes with cash for clothes in hand. Beside these numerous options for selling your clothes in person or online, there’s one more traditional way worth mentioning - holding a yard sale yourself. Sell Clothes the Old-Fashioned Way A final way to sell your clothes is to hold a yard sale. You could put up signs on the street or advertise to friends and family through social media. You probably can’t set as high prices at a yard sale as you would online, but you may get some buyers if you live in an area with lots of people traffic. What about those clothes that don’t sell, but you still want to get rid of? Is there any financial benefit to be had for items that are no longer in style? If none of these other options appeal to you, you could always try having a yard sale to sell your clothes. Donate Your Leftover Clothing For any clothes that don’t sell, you can donate them to a charity, like Goodwill or the Salvation Army. Not only will you be helping people in need, but your donations will be tax deductible. Indirectly, you’ll still be getting some cash back for your old clothes. Now that you know where to sell your old clothes (so many options!), how do you start? How can you sort through your wardrobe and effectively clear out the outfits that you no longer wear? How to Sort Through Your Clothes Effectively Do you ever feel like your drawers of full of clothes yet you have nothing to wear? Do you wish you could minimize but aren’t sure how to start? If you’re suffering from having too much stuff, you’re not alone. Consider the following statistics: One of out every 10 Americans rents offsite storage for their possessions (New York Magazine). The home organization industry has more than doubled in size since the 2000s (Uppercase). The average American woman owns over 30 outfits (Forbes). Most of us could benefit from cutting through the clutter, but minimizing is easier said than done. While it’s easy to think you might like an outfit again someday, it’s more likely that you won’t circle back to it. One of the best ways to sort through your clothing is to take everything out of your drawers and closets. Consider each item individually, deciding whether it makes you happy. Would you enjoy wearing this item today (weather permitting)? If you find yourself hemming and hawing, then you’re probably better off without it. Put back the pieces that you know you love and want to wear, and sell or donate the rest. Not only will you make some cash back, but you’ll feel the benefits of a more organized and decluttered life. Clean out your cluttered closet and make some cash by selling your old clothes to a secondhand store. Selling Clothes for Cash: Final Thoughts Whether you’re looking to clean out your closet, make some fast cash, start an online boutique for all of your amazing vintage finds, or all of the above, you can easily sell your old clothes for cash. According to Racked, reselling clothing has exploded into a $16 billion industry, and is continuing to grow at a rate of 6% each year. Online marketplaces and retailers connect you with a wide array of buyers across the country and world. Used clothing stores, like Buffalo Exchange and Plato’s Closet, also let you walk in and sell your clothes for cash in one quick stop. Since there are so many options, you have to think about which selling technique makes most sense for you. Selling online usually means you can make more money, but you'll also have to invest more of your time into the transaction. Selling at a local store may mean less profit, but it could be more efficient overall. Whichever method you choose, you'll want to find a balance among your time, energy, and money you make back on clothing you no longer wear. By selling your clothes, you can make money, clear out your closet, and reduce waste as part of the recycled clothing movement. Win-win-win.

See other  French verbs  conjugated into all the tenses and moods: Simple Compound aller aller avoir avoir tre tre prendre prendre There are four things you need to know about French compound tenses and moods in order to conjugate and use them correctly. 1. Two-part conjugations Compound tenses/moods are always made up of two parts: the conjugated  auxiliary verb  (either  avoir  or  Ãƒ ªtre) and the  past participle. French verbs are classified by their auxiliary verb, and use it for all compound moods/tenses. That is,  avoir  verbs use  avoir  in all of the compound tenses/moods, and  Ãƒ ªtre  verbs use  Ãƒ ªtre  in all the compound tenses/moods.In the chart on page 1, the tense/mood in the first column is the conjugation used for the auxiliary verb of the compound tense/mood listed in the second column. For example,  aller  is an  Ãƒ ªtre  verb. So the present tense of  Ãƒ ªtre,  Il est, is the conjugation used for the passà © composà © of  aller:  Il est allà ©Ã‚  (He went).Manger  is an  avoir  verb. The future of  avoir,  Nous aurons, is the conjugation for the future perfect,  Nous aurons mangà ©Ã‚  (We will have eaten).   2. Agreement There are two different types of agreement with compound tenses and moods, depending on whether youre dealing with  Ãƒ ªtre  verbs or  avoir  verbs.Être verbs:  In all compound tenses/moods, the past participle of  Ãƒ ªtre  verbs  has to agree with the subject of the sentence in gender and number.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Il est allà ©.  Ã‚  Ã‚  He went.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Elle à ©tait allà ©e.  Ã‚  Ã‚  She had gone.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ils seront allà ©s.  Ã‚  Ã‚  They will have gone.  Ã‚  Ã‚  ...quelles soient allà ©es.  Ã‚  Ã‚  ...that they went.Avoir verbs:  The past participle of  avoir  verbs that are  preceded by a  direct object  must agree with the direct object*  Ã‚  Ã‚  Les livres que tu as commandà ©s sont ici.  Ã‚  Ã‚  The books that you ordered are here.  Ã‚  Ã‚  La pomme ? Je laurai mangà ©e.  Ã‚  Ã‚  The apple? I will have eaten it.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Mes sÅ“urs... vous les aviez vues ?  Ã‚  Ã‚  My sisters... had you seen them?*Except for  ve rbs of perception  and the  causative. When the  direct object follows  the  avoir  verb, there is no agreement.  Ã‚  Ã‚  As-tu commandà © des livres  ?  Ã‚  Ã‚  Did you order some books?  Ã‚  Ã‚  Jaurai mangà © la pomme.  Ã‚  Ã‚  I will have eaten the apple.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Aviez-vous vu mes sÅ“urs ?  Ã‚  Ã‚  Had you seen my sisters? There is  no agreement with  indirect objects.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Je leur ai parlà ©.  Ã‚  Ã‚  I talked to them.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Il nous a tà ©là ©phonà ©.  Ã‚  Ã‚  He called us.Learn more about agreement   3. Word order: Pronouns Object, reflexive, and adverbial pronouns  always precede the auxiliary verb in compound tenses/moods:   Ã‚  Ã‚  Je te lai donnà ©.  Ã‚  Ã‚  I gave it to you.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Il lavait fait.  Ã‚  Ã‚  He had done it.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Nous y serons allà ©s.  Ã‚  Ã‚  We will have gone there.   4. Word order: Negation Negative structures  almost always surround the auxiliary verb**   Ã‚  Ã‚  Je nai pas à ©tudià ©.  Ã‚  Ã‚  I didnt study.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Nous naurions jamais su.  Ã‚  Ã‚  We would have never known.**Exceptions:  Ã‚  Ã‚  a)  In the  past infinitive, both parts of the negation precede the auxiliary verb:  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Jespà ¨re ne pas avoir perdu.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  I hope I didnt lose.  Ã‚  Ã‚  b)  Personne,  aucun, and  nulle part  follow the past participle:  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Je nai vu personne.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  I didnt see anyone.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Je ne lai trouvà © nulle part.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  I couldnt find it anywhere.   34. Word order with pronouns and negation When the sentence includes a pronoun and negation, the pronoun is placed in front of the auxiliary verb, and then the negative structure surrounds that pair:Subject   ne   pronoun(s) auxiliary verb negative word past participle.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Nous ny serions jamais allà ©s.  Ã‚  Ã‚  We would never have gone there.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Je ne te lai pas donnà ©.  Ã‚  Ã‚  I didnt give it to you.For detailed information about the conjugations and uses of the individual compound tenses/moods, follow the links in the summary table on page 1. Other two-verb constructions In addition to compound conjugations (auxiliary verb past participle), French has other two-verb forms, what I call dual-verb constructions. These consist of a semi-auxiliary verb plus an infinitive, and the rules regarding agreement and word order are somewhat different -  learn more. Discuss the evolution of the concept of metabolism and symbiosis in Essay

What are the key aspects of - Essay Example In this case, this evolution was attributed to the philosophies of urban adaptability and renewability of ideas gathered from various Japanese, which were entrenched within the culture in theory and physical practices. Moreover, this was a representation of accomplishment of the contemporary and chronological Japanese architecture. This paper will focus on conducting an analysis of the Metabolist Architectural Movement that was initiated in 1960s after the World War II, in which Japan participated. Apparently, it is important to exploring its influence on the popular works of art in anime genre in order to understand the evolution of the concept of metabolism and symbolism after the World War II. Evolution of metabolism has been significantly influenced by acceptability into Science Fiction, and renders it to be considered an element of the Utopia, which is regarded to be post-apocalyptic aspect of Japanese society’s future. Therefore, integration of metabolism in Science Fict ion is also considered an illustration of progress. Fundamentally, the theory of metabolism is based on two principles, which include symbiosis of various time periods, which is also referred to as diachronicity. In this case, â€Å"metabolism† is a term that is derived from science of biology in order to refer to the process and alteration, which is undergone by creatures during their lives. Initially, the first principles of metabolism were established by the movement for regeneration and metabolizing process attributed urban planning and architecture. Therefore, the terms metabolism is identified by the movement as a way of expressing believes for work of architecture, thereby arguing that it should be dynamic after its completion. In addition, members of this movement suggested that people should seek understanding of the works of architecture in terms of processes involved in its evolution from the past to present and to future. Evolution of the concept of metabolism and symbolism in Japan is evident through its role in facilitating political and cultural development after the Second World War. In fact, Metabolism Movement focused on redefining numerous relationships with designs, which were considered crucial. These relationships were attributed to features such as permanence, transience, expressing thoughts, and undertaking spontaneous planning. In this case, these were some of the ideas that were features in the schemes developed by Metabolists, through evolution of structures and impermanence of forms, which had attributes of substantial themes. Evolution of the concept of metabolism and symbolism has also been attributed increased prominence and respect for Japanese architecture. Actually, this Japanese architecture serves as a way influencing mentor to younger members of Metabolist Movement. Besides, this evolution facilitated conception of this movement into a large-scale plan of reconstructing Tokyo. On the other hand, there were suggestion s made through Metabolism schemes to reconfigure the modern structure of the cities. Apparently, these this reconfiguration was aimed at fitting the lifecycle of citizens. Therefore, these structures were aimed at taking designs to promote growth and transformation in a way that was similar to the evolution and metamorphosis of an organism. In this case, the Metabolism Movement became Utopia in a way that led to inspiring of a notion, which regarded the city
